Saltwater Tuna and Sharks!

My good friend Jerry Pifer, Skipper of the "Reelly Addicited" sport fishing boat (a 32' Albemarle) has joined forces with 5 Rivers Guide Service to offer my clients the best opportunity to fly fish for Albacore Tuna and several species of Shark off the Oregon coast beginning in mid-July, '08.  The "Reelly Addicited" boasts a 11' beam, twin 300 hp. "CAT" Diesel engines, live wells for baiting the tuna and sharks to the stearn of the vessel and Jerry's many years experience as a salt water expert!

Last year Jerry boated in excess of 1,000 albacore tuna and countless Blue and Mako Sharks.  One Blue shark measured more than 12 feet!  Jerry is predicting an average day on tuna this season to be between 25-30 fish per day.  A couple of summers ago I had the privilage of fishing tuna with Jerry and it was AWSOME!  If you haven't had the oppotunity to experience Tuna and Sharks on a fly rod, you owe it to yourself to make this summer, the season when you experience this incredbile trip of a lifetime!

We'll be offering both conventional tackle and fly tackle trips for these incredible trophies this season.  Tuna will likely be available well into the end of September.  Day trips last twelve hours and run $400/per angler, per day with a four angler minimun.  Fish cleaning is also available with an additional fee.  Lunches, flies and leaders will also be provided.

Hunter's 1st Steelhead on a fly!

This is my youngest son, Hunter.  He turned 10 in January.  He's caught just about everything that swims in Oregon, including steelhead.  He definately has the fishing gene!  Today, he caught his first summer steelhead on a fly and as you can tell from the photo, this fish gave him an epic batttle!

And he did everything right!  This fish took long runs, massive jumps and did everything it could do to shake Hunter's fly to no avail!  I don't know who was more excited or more proud, Hunter or I?  GREAT JOB SON!!!!

The summer steelhead counts coming over the falls at Oregon City on the lower Willamette and over Winchester Dam on the North Umpqua are shaping up to be record runs!  On June 17th there were 11,198 fish over the Oregon City Falls and they're coming over at 200-400 fish a day!  This could turn out to be one of the best summer steelhead seasons in recent memory.

Rip Rap Rock (aka Elevation Rock) on the North Umpqua fly water is probably one of the most recognizable landmarks on the whole river.

Welcome

We offer year round fishing opportunities on the World Famous "Fly water section" of the North Umpqua River for Steelhead on the fly. The "Town Run"- Eugene and Springfields ultimate urban steelheaad fly fishing experience. McKenzie Trout, Umpqua Smallmouth Bass and Shad as well as many Southern Oregon coastal streams and estuarys for opportunities to catch Salmon on the fly. We offer you the option of choosing walk-in trips, or a boat trip from either a 16' Clackacraft fly-bench model McKenzie style driftboat or a powerboat trip from a 20' inboard jet-boat.

Expert guide, Dean Finnerty, currently uses many different tried and proven fly rod techniques to get his clients into fish consistently. Dean and our guides will teach you what tactics, fly patterns and techniques that will work the best on any given day for the species you're after.

Dean has been a fly fishing instructor for more than 20 years and has taught fly-casting and presentation to both professional and beginning anglers.

We specialize in catch and release on most of our Steelhead, Trout and Smallmouth Bass trips. We recognize that many people enjoy catching fish for the table, but also understand that if our fishing resources are to last into the future, then now is the time to embrace conservation efforts for all the species we fish for. We recommend that our clients bring video camera's or 35 mm type cameras on their adventures to capture some of the scenes of the day. It is not uncommon for us to see Bald Eagles, Osprey, Seal/Sea Lion, Grey Whales, ducks, geese, deer, elk, bear and numerous other species of wildlife while on most of the rivers and bays that we fish. Dean can also make arrangements to have your trophy mounted by some of the top taxidermists around or have your fish "air shipped" anywhere in the world.

Our Goal at 5 Rivers Guide Service and North Umpqua Fly Fishing Adventures is to give you the best guided fishing trip in the state of Oregon, one that you will cherish the memories of, for years to come.
